Want to go to Montreal for the weekend, husband is a US Resident, does he need his passport?

His passport expired from his country of origin, does he have to get it renewed to be able to get in and out of Canada?

U.S.permanrnt residents may travel to and from Canada using their green card and a photo I.D.   Starting in June 1, 2009,  everyone must have a passport...so he will need to renew his passport.   But , for now, he may use his green card nd photo i.d.   You may use a photo I.D. and birth certificate.

It depends on the mode of travel.  Although there are no Canadian laws requiring US citizens to have passports in order to enter Canada, US airlines will not board him on a flight leaving the USA unless he has a valid passport.  If you're travelling via car however, you can return to the United States without holding a valid passport.  Effective June 2009, you'll need a passport to get home.
