Want to identify a snake in Finger Lakes, NY that slithered under wood deck. Tx?

Snake slithered unhurriedly away after my daughter screamed at it. It was taupe colored with black triangle markings. Can't seem to find anything like it on internet. Any ideas on what type it was?

  1. I go to the Finger Lakes Too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its awesome up there!!!! (Lake Keuka) I don't think the snake is poisonous maybe a garden snake?
