  1. http://www.ets.org/

  2. TOEFL: Test Of English as a Foreign Language

The test was formulated by a company called ETS, the same company that administers the test.  For the most accurate information about the test and format, I suggest this link: http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menui...

The test consists of four sections: reading, writing, listening, speaking.

Each section is worth a total of 30 points, so the highest score possible is 120. Many universities around the world require a minimum TOEFL score from students whose first language is not English.  Also, certain professional certifications organizations require a minimum score.

It's a particularly challenging test because some sections combine ("integrate") two or more skills. For example, in one section students have to read a brief passage and listen to a lecture. They are then asked to write a brief essay to compare and contrast.

As for preparation, well...there is no magic formula to help you pass.  However, you can take practice tests to familiarize yourself with the test format. This way, you'll know what to expect on test day.  Here are some books:

Longman Preparation Course for the TOEFL Test

    Barron's TOEFL iBT Internet-Based Test 2008

The Official Guide to the New TOEFL iBT

As for websites, I recommend the following:

    Hope this has helped!
