I was wondering if you could buy a train engine that has been cleaned out, like the outer shell to put in your yard or at a park and what it would cost.

  1. THink its really hard these days. Companies either realize the value, scrap them, or sell them to a 3rd wrold country.  Those days are gone.

  2. You may check with the nearest railway office to you.  Also, if there is a railway museum around, check them

  3. yes it is possible... I live in Md and there is a dentist that has an office in a kaboose.

Yu may want to check with your state and county guidlines to see if its allowed.

I dont know where you would buy one.

  4. Sounds awesome. I'm also a lover of trains. I'm reminded of the old book, "The Boxcar Children". Something about that lifestyle was very alluring. Was that also your inspiration? Anyway, you can check on Ebay, and can find just about anything there.

  5. You sure can.  There are scrap dealers who specialize in train and other heavy item recycling.

It was common practice for railroads to donate steam engines to cities, when they came to an end of useful life.  These were found more often than not in city parks, county fairgrounds, museums, etc.

For private use, you will probably have to buy a car or caboose.  If seriously considering such a move, don't forget to factor in transportation expenses to final destination.

    Good luck and happy hunting....................
