  1. hi, a dilution of

    1:10 means 1 initial solution to (10 - 1 =) 9 pure water

    1:100 means 1 initial solution to (100 - 1 =) 99 pure water

    1:100 means 1 initial solution to (1000 - 1 =) 999 pure water

therefore for a final volume of 20 ul dilution of

    1:10 needs, initial solution = 1/10 x 20 = 2 ul

    1:100 needs, initial solution = 1/100 x 20 = 0.2 ul

    1:1000 needs, initial solution = 1/1000 x 20 = 0.002 ul

    hope I helped. Bye.

  2. 2ul, 0.2ul and 0.02ul of the initial solution made up to 20ul with diluent in each case.

In practice, you would not attempt to measure these small volumes in a laboratory but would make serial dilutions, (using the same pipettes, with fresh tips, in each case).
