Want to migrate to Cairns, and have not much info, please give me some advise?

I'm thinking about moving to Australia, do to the skillet visa that I'm applying for, they ask me to live away from the big cities such as Melbourn or Brisbane, in that case, I was considering Cairns. I look into the web trying to find how is daily life there, but didnt find much. Can everyone give me an insight of Cairns...

Cairns is very spread out, but a small city - around 140,000 population and growing fast - the Northern beaches are the best - especially great places to live, Trinity Beach, Kewarra Beach, Palm Cove and Clifton Beach.   Bad areas, stay away from suburbs starting with 'M'.
