My wife and I are getting sick of Wollongong-increasingly noisy, busy and full of yahoo's, house too small and prices expensive. We presently live in Towradgi. We want to move our young family of 3 to a another town as a 'new start'. A good friend of ours lives in Newcastle NSW--says it has good schools, nice areas near the beach. Continually sings its praises and telling us that it's a great place to raise kids. Seeking opinions on this. Thanks

PS Getting work is not a problem...what would the rental of a home is a nice suburb there be?

  1. Why don't you move down south, perhaps Albion Park or Shellharbour would suit you. We're out of the noisy and hoon filled part of town and more relaxed. Your house in towradgi, based on location alone would leave you with more then enough to purchase a bigger house down here.

Your still close to home and family and friends and could even stay in your current job. We made the move from Towradgi 11 years ago and havent looked back.

  2. Are you a glutton for punishment mate?  Consider the rest of Australia as well.

  3. Newy isn't a great deal different if you are looking inner city wise. Plenty of beer monster young yobbos spoling an awesome city for the majority.

It depends on where exactly you wish to live up here. It is quite a large city incorporating many beaches, a harbour and a very large lake. Property prices are as anywhere and based aorund location. Beach, Lake and Harbour suburbs being the most expensive. Rental is high here and rising and availability of these properties is extremely scarce. Mainly due to the June storms and floods from last year which left a number of people without homes.

Best to get a map and take a drive up here to see what area would best suit your lifestyle.

It is a great city to live in as everything is at your door step.
