I am thinking about moving my family to Santa Cruz or any of the surrounding areas.

Capitola is really nice, but expensive.  Try Freedom or Aptos, those are nice to.  If you want to go a little further up the coast, Davenport is pretty cool too.

Watsonville which is about 15 miles south is a lot cheaper.  Felton or Boulder Creek are up in the Santa Cruz mountains and they are excellent.  Santa Cruz itself has very expensive rent and housing.  One slightly cheaper neighborhood that is still nice is Live Oak which is out towards Capitola around 17th-30th St.
