  1. I'd say google it and check with your doctor and friends a doctor that i work with use to live there but just moved here to colorado and say's that the depression rate and suicide rate there is huge since it either day light half the year or night the other half some can't cope with that. An also how are you mentally can you handle all that cause when it gloomy or dark out i personally wanna stay inside and sleep or watch tv. Well good luck

  2. Gas is really expensive there. It gets cold at night and during the winter. Summers are 60 degrees. I was there last summer.

It'll cost at least 3 cents a minute for your family to call you. It'll cost you a lot too to call your family.

I had thoughts to move there but it's stupid. There's nothing to do there

  3. I have a friend whose sister and brother in law  lived in the far north -- can't remember the town, --but they had to have food "dropped in" by plane in the winter. They taught school there and said there were a lot of drop outs and drinking was a big problem too. They only stayed 2 years because it was too depressing and they couldn't handle it.

My own sister and brother in law were stationed in Anchorage 3 years when he was in the Air Force.  Living conditions were not nearly as harsh.  In summers the temp would be in the 80's and it would be light 20 hours a day.  They had to have black shades to be able to sleep. In winter it was cold, but it was a dry cold so it didn't feel as bad as you would think.  In fact, it was so dry they would have to hose down the yard to wet the snow so the kids could buid a snowman or the snow wouldn't stick together. Moose and bear would come down on garbage day to dig in the trash. In winter it never gets real light -- looks more like dusk during the day. That would be depressing.  Anchorage is like any city with schools, churches, stores, restaurants, parks, traffic.

If you like the outdoors there is so much to do there all year long.

My husband and sons went to Alaska on vacation last summer.  They spent time in Anchorage sightseeing and went to Juneau too.  Juneau is a rain forest, and they went on the zip line through the tall trees, 100 ft in the air.  They went salmon fishing, hiking, boating, climbed out on the glaciers, took a plane ride over Mt McKinley.  The place is spectacular.  They talked to a lot of kids who work there in the summer and then go back home or off to college in the fall.  The businesses provide a place for them to live as well as a job.  There are so many tourists in the summer they need more employees than the towns can provide, so the kids don't have trouble finding work.  You might try it for the summer to see how well you really like it.
