Question:

Want to revamp old mirror?

So I have an old mirror, from about the 80's, (from outer to inner) has gold trim, then black mirror/glass, then a tiny bit of gold trim, then it's a big mirror, probably about 2 by 3.5 feet.

I want to revamp the mirror, give it more of a contemporary look. Does anyone have any ideas that I could do with it?

Ps. Ideas such as, I thought about just trying to get the mirror out, and making about a 3 to 4 inch border around it and making a mosaic of broken glass.... trying to make it a little more modern to go with my room.

I am a 21 year old college student, who loves art, photography, and journalism... hopefully this will help in giving me ideas.

  1. You can always paint the frame.  Or reframe it with some trim from the hardware store.  You know, the stuff the use for borders on the ceiling.  I Love mirrors.  Good Luck.  And let me know what you come up with.

  2. Definitely cover the black glass part with something - that'll make a big change in how modern it looks. You don't say how wide that part is, so I'm not sure what would fit there - glass tiles, fabric or wallpaper that matches something else in your room, or pretty ribbon. You could also use the special paints for doing faux stained glass and do a design in that strip.

Good luck - a challenging but fun recycling project.
