Okay , I have recently purchased a car with all black cloth interior and have 2 small children. So I wanted to scotchguard it and my husband came home with heavy starch and he seems to think it is the same thing a s scotchguard. Has anyone ever done this, or does anyone have any ideas for stain repelling my all black cloth interior? Any advice appreciated.

  1. Heavy starch may offer some protection, but will quickly wear away/flake off. Scotchgard binds to fibers and will last longer and repel stains & liquids. Be sure to use the formula specifically for automobiles (linked below). I recommend testing it first in an inconspicuous place in your car, not only to ensure it won't cause staining (most likely won't, but some fabric upholstery can change color), but especially to make sure your family doesn't have an adverse reaction to it. Some people, especially children, can be sensitive to the chemicals although 3-M has improved the safety and environmental aspects of its formula in recent years. If/when you decide to do the whole interior, make sure you're in a well-ventilated area and the car itself is ventilated (doors/windows open) for at least for at least 4-6 hours.
