  1. Here are a couple of places to look for something that inspires you:

    http://sewing.about.com/library/blfeatur...

    http://www.sewing.org/

May I also suggest the Kwiksew book, Sewing for Toddlers?   It is a very nice little sewing course, complete with basic patterns, and a real bargain:

    http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Sewing-Toddle...

(all of the Kwiksew books are very useful, and the patterns are generally very well put together).

http://www.kwiksew.com -- then the section labeled "books"

  2. if your sewing is as bad as mine i wudnt inflict it on her lol i came on your question cos i thought  you were gonna give advice

  3. check out "sewing with Nancy" ...she's on PBS and has lots of good hints. For your 18mo. and a first easy....buy baby flannel and turn under all four edges and hem. You can do that on the machine with a straight stitch or blanket stitch in a co-ordinating color is cute too. I like a large receiving blanket so if the flannel is 44" I get 44" in length so it will be square and actually big enough to cover a child. You can embroider or applique a cute design in the corner to dress it up too. Good sewing...it will pay off thru the years.

  4. Pillows are a great start - go pop onto ebay and find the family home and garden community board - loads of very experienced sewers there who will happily help

  5. Hi! I started with curtains and a comforter for my girls - I am new to sewing too and found those to be very easy. I covered another comforter with fabric I chose and it turned out awesome! Good luck and have fun!

  6. There is a website called Craftster which might help you.  Its basically a big forum for people interested in crafts.  There will be hundreds of sewing projects.  I'm not much of a seamstress though, more of a knitter.

  7. 35 years ago I started off with just sewing a little bonnet and jacket for my little daughter, and have enjoyed it ever since.  When my daughter started  work after college - I made her first outfits, have enjoyed it ever since.  Don't have high expectations of yourself to start with, choose easy patterns and you will find others in your community who will enjoy sewing too.

If you follow  directions on the patterns you will learn easily.  They also include a phone # on the patterns to help you with understnding the more techichnical terms.

    Enjoy!
