I want to begin cycling as a sport... now what? I have a mountain bike. What do I do and what kind? Where can I find a club or group? Please give me lots of info... as much as you ca give a beginner. Oh, but I already do a lot of bike-riding for fun. Like around town. I can go 10 miles at a time and there's lots of hills where I live.

  1. There is a group of bmx riders in michigan but it's mostly bmx bikes there is two copper bikes, 67 bmx-racing bikes, and 4 mountain bikes, we only ride around 20 miles tops, but we go to skate parks.

  2. How old are you? If you are under 18 and with your attitude there are bike clubs that are dying to have you. Strong young female cyclists are in incredible demand! There aren't enough in MTB, road or anything else. I've been to junior races where the women's races aren't even a quarter full.

In fact there aren't enough female riders in any class and the competition is, frankly, weak. You couldn't be interested in a sport that needs you more!

Go to the US Cycling site and find the club near you. Chances are if you sign up they'll find some way to get you a uniform and maybe even a bike to use for whatever kind of racing you want to do: MTB, road, time trial or cyclocross. Chances are they'll set you up with a coach, group rides, training schedules and whatever else you need, limited only by your own enthusiasm.

Please do it. Cycling is the best sport there is with the best people around: You'll be welcomed with open arms.

  3. You can compete in mountain bike races, cross country style, or you can also get yourself a road bike and compete in road races. The mileage you quoted is actually a little low though. Start working yourself up to 50-100 mile rides. Then you'l be ready for most cycling races at the beginner level and can work your way through the categories.

    Good luck!

  4. well i think that you should ask your parents or loo up a gym the have wonderful cycling clubs or just join a racing club they dont really race they just have fun but i would say they go 15 to 20 miles at a time so just be ready for a good race every tuessday-friday and mail me for more info about how to sign up  and how to get started

  5. Cycling is a great sport and you can find any amount of clubs in the phone book.  Now, it's great that you can ride ten miles up/down hills and all around town.   I would love to see you get up early in the morning and ride thirty miles in two and a half hours.  That's about 5minute for each mile.  Then in the after noon, ride another thirty miles.  Do this for a month and you should be ready for any long distance riding.  I rode in a few races and did well.  I love to ride too and some day soon I'll get back to it. You brought back good feelings with this question ??? Thank you.
