Want to start watching anime? Where to begin?

Question

Like I said, want to get into anime, looking for somewhere to begin. I was thinking about Cowboy Bebop to start, it seems like it might be OK.

What I'm looking for from anime at the moment, is a bunch of fighting, guns, swords, more fighting, robots, more fighting, monsters, and lots more fighting.

Not really Dragonball Z, I'd like it more stylized than that, like modernish. Style over substance perhaps, eh?

i started watching inuyasha first and that is like the best anime you could ever watch.it's also easy because it plays on tv and on the internet.do you want to know what it's about/

kagome lives in moderen- day tokyo.she lives on a sacred shrine .one day she goes through the sacred well (to save her cat) and ends up in feudal japan.were she meets the boyish half-demon inuyasha.over tiime there adventures togehter get more interesting :kagome pasing through the two worlds,inuyasha past and new members to the gang!!

well there are so many anime with in that section, u may want to try Blood+, Code Geass, Inu Yasha, Gundam, Naruto, there are many many others u should ask a employ at a movie or  book store and see if they have any good choses.

well the best series in no order for that is gantz,gundam wing and up but not gundam00 that sucks. ikki tousen it funny but cool, descendants of darkness, tenjo tenge, it funny but most people like the fighting for the series, baka the fighter

Cowboy Bebop is a great Anime to start off with~ it was one of my first as well and remains my number two favorite. I would also recommend Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (OVA you should see after you finish Kenshin), Eureka Seven, Trigun, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Baccano!, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann~ those are great to start with.

As for an ongoing series~ I recommend Soul Eater (which definitely has lots of style)~ and Xam'd: Lost Memories~

After all those I would say you should look into starting Bleach and Naruto~ since they are both long and ongoing series~

I would start with Full Metal Alchemist or Death Note, 51 (if i remember right ) and 37 episode, so there both a good length to start with and there both amazing shows.

So many people will throw you a list and not care what you really want i started very similar to how you want to start. my first anime was definitely full metal alchemist its sad yet really stylized and interesting. They change the design when the scene are supposed to be comical and light and hearty where as the gorey and actiony scenes are intense and almost look like CGI. I loved that show. Also try wolfs rain its kinda old but the plot line will pull you in and have you crying like a baby at the end its not long at all also fma is over too. also try deathnote (VERY STYLIZED)

As you go on you will find its harder and harder to find most anime completed in american dub but you can watch almost all anime with subtitles i think its better that way plus if you get a good subber they will fill you in on the japanese jokes that are in alot of anime.

bleach also another great one was my second fave im still obsessed its very long but not as long as inuyasha which was the true reason i started to get interested in anime but i realized all too quickly it was too long.

now i prefer romantic comedy's like ouran high school host club and high school girls those are fun and fresh.

if you like new and upcoming anime stay away from gundam and all that c**p its like watching robots fight.....strange
