but don't know how and what to start off with (weights, reps, types of exercises),,,,does anybody know a good website that will explain some basic exercises for beginners? I don't want to get all big and stuff like body builders, just something or a site to get started....I have a weight bench I bought,,a very basic one, but it'll get me started and if I want to pursue more deeply, I'll buy a better one,,,,,but any good websites out there (with pics preferrably) as I don't know all the exercise names,,,thanks

  1. Here you go. No pictures, but it does give specifics and I have personally used this website and his tips. It worked great.

  2. Here's a great website for fitness: go to www.menshealth.com and click on the "FITNESS" tab.  Men's Health is a great magazine, and the website is an excellent source for getting information on fitness, weight loss, nutrition, and on other topics as well.

You should also look into purchasing some books on fitness.  Have you joined a gym?  Talk to one of the trainers at the gym and consider a personal training session.  Also, remember that nutrition is so important when you start working out... you need to fuel your body properly in order for it to change.  I would suggest reading up on nutrition for fitness as well.  Take a multivitamin every day, and if you are trying to gain lean muscle mass, you should consume protein supplements.  You can order discounted fitness supplements at www.fitsavers.com

  3. bodybuilding.com has great routines.  however, i have been weight training for over 25 years and am an expowerlifter.  imo you should start out lighter in weights, doing 2-3 exercises per body part, in the rep range of 10-12 (you can even go 15 for legs if you want) and 3 sets.  do this for several months so that you build a strength platform and get your body used to working out.  after that time you can increase your sets to 4, decrease the reps to 6-8 (for strength and building) but no more than 10.  if you are interested in increasing muscle mass it would do you well to increase your protein intake to about .5-1 (some people ingest 2) grams of protein per lean lb of body weight.  it's important to have protein directly after a workout so that you put your body in a positive nitrogen state which helps promote recovery and also builds muscle.  don't forget good healthy complex carbs and try to avoid junk foods, soda etc.  good luck and happy training.
