  1. Absolutely!! Yeah only if you are not stuck in an agreement... If you haven't signed any... Then by all means switch, I did too..

    It's way cheaper...

  2. depends. if its the cable company, just keep the cable and internet and cancel the phone service. if its the phone company you need the phone service to have the dsl to your house. i been a vonage coustomer for almost four years now and i love the service. only pay $30 including taxes for local long distance. its worth the money. good luck.

  3. Yes you can, as long as your internet service is some sort of high speed. I have TV and internet through Comcast and phone service through Vonage. I have no problem with Vonage.

  4. Yes -- I did it.  My old phone company still supplies my internet connection.

You have to ask your phone company for a "dark line" -- meaning internet without a phone line.  Technically, you will still have a phone number, but you will not be able to make/receive phone calls.

Ask your phone company how much a dark line will cost.  Sometimes your phone and internet is part of a bundle package.  In order to make a proper cost comparison, you have to know how much your internet will really cost.

I have Vonage and a Magic Jack -- I love them both.  I was so happy to get rid of the phone company.

  5. Yes, you can keep just the internet from the phone company and then get the phone service through vonage. I dont recommend it because first of all whats the point of having two carriers and second I dont know how familiar you are with the 911 service. If there is an emergency it is not always so simple to be located, and to me the most important issue is for example if there is a power outage then the internet will obviously be down which means you wont have a phone service bc the modem is off, in cases like that if there is an emergency you can have the peace of mind of having the land line.

  6. Yes, it is possible.

What you need to do is call your Telco and tell them you want to drop your PSTN phone service and only subscribe to DSL Internet using "Dry Loop" or "Naked DSL".  This is DSL Internet without the phone service.

Otherwise, just get high-speed Internet through your Cabel TV company.  That is what I now do.

I pulled the plug on my local Telco over a year ago.  I now only use home phone VoIP over my Cable Internet.

What I did was subscribed to High-Speed Internet through my Cable company.  Then, I configured my Linksys PAP2T-NA VoIP ATA to work with VoIP services like CallCentric and InPhonex that allow me to supply and configure my own VoIP box (and, no contracts).

I also use VoIP over my PC with services like Skype, Efonica, Gizmo5, etc.  There are many options to saving money on long distance calling over VoIP.
