I want to teach English abroad. I have the capabilities (use English as a first language), education (MA in Literature) and experience (taught English) and I am an American citizen (my dad is American). However, the "problem" is that I was educated in the Philippines (my school is internationally recognized) and I am well, Asian. I didn't think that it would be a problem, but apparently it is a major obstacle for schools in Korea due to the new E2 visa regulations. Does anyone have any suggestions for places that are open to employing someone with a degree from an Asian country?

  1. Your country of origin.  Like if you're Japanese, go to Japan, Korean - go to Korea (South, of course), Vietnamese - go to Vietnam (south, of course), Thai - Thailand, etc., etc.  That way you know the culture, cuisine, and would be a lot more comfortable in the area.  Helps if you could stay with some relatives while teaching abroad as well.  Hope this helps!

  2. China or Japanese. best places

  3. i think the best countries you would love to go and teach where you will fully be satisfied with the working conditons and high salaries is Russia. Most poeple are now wanting to learn English and learning has become very expensive meaning that you stand a very good chance of becoming rich

  4. It really depends on the schools you apply to, I think. I hate to say it, but there is a bit of racism in Japan, I've heard. But, in my workplace at least, there's a lady from Ghana (whose first language is English, I think, and she's got a degree in education) working at the jr. highs.

If your MA is from an American university, it should probably count for a lot, though. Keep trying . . . maybe someone's blowing the Korean visa regulations out of proportion.
