  1. where are you?

in UK there is the battery vehicle soc http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/...

there is a Yahoo group diy-ev where you could ask

Bill Brant book has all the diy guidance

    http://www.amazon.com/Build-Your-Own-Ele...

The cost will depend on what performance you want.

http://www.acpropulsion.com/ will provide the bits similar to the Tesla eg 0-60 4secs. And it is worth joining a group to get batteries at a reasonable discount.

but whatever evs are just more enjoyable to drive.

  2. Why ruin a great old car? Electric cars just suck. Very small range. Costly. They just move pollution to another location.

  3. Where do you live? Sorry I don't know of any shops but I can help with some links. You rock! Converting to electric is nearly a revolutionary act at this point. I bet it'll be a "sweet ride" when you're done.

In "the Noise" a monthly free paper in Flagstaff, there's a column by a guy who is converting a VW Bug. (You'll have to read it as a PDF file)

    http://www.thenoise.us/

This is a site with helpful links and a blog that chronicles this guy's conversions. Also has links to places that sell parts.

    http://www.evconvert.com/

Price: My guess is it'll be $2000-3000, depending on what you do with it.

Good luck! And you should keep a web journal of the experience. Feel free to email me a link if you do!
