Ok I have Interstitial Cystitis and I can not have tomatoes because of the acid. BUT for some reason my heinz organic ketchup does not bother me at all. I mentioned that to my mom and she said I could make spaghetti sauce out of ketchup. Sounds gross but she said she used to do it along time ago and it worked. Seeing how my mom is a wonderful cook I believe her and want to try. I was wondering if anyone has done this and what are your recipes? no meat please!

It does sound gross but I am willing to give it a shot since I have not been able to have spaghetti sauce in years and wont ever again for the rest of my life, so i'll try anything at this point.

  1. I initially thought the same thing as you, ketchup on spaghetti sounded gross!  But a friend of mine made some sauce once that tasted delicious and when I asked her for the recipe, I was amazed at what she had used for it - including ketchup!  It seems a little weird, but it's really good.  Here it is:

2 slices bacon, chopped into bits

chopped onion & green pepper (optional)

1 small container plain yogurt or sour cream (about 1 cup)

    1/4 cup ketchup

1 can mushrooms or 1/2 - 1 cup fresh mushrooms

    salt & pepper to taste

    1/4 tsp garlic powder

    dash of oregano

In a frying pan, fry up the chopped bacon (and onion & pepper if desired) and mushrooms.  When bacon is nice and crispy and mushrooms are lightly browned, stir in yogurt and ketchup along with seasonings.  Once sauce bubbles, take off heat and serve over pasta.

  2. gonna be pretty sweet (literally).  Can you use organic tomato juice?  Add some beef broth to cut the sweetness.  try using garlic and italian seasonings and lots of meat.  Also add green peppers and onions and mushrooms.  The chunkier the sauce, the less dependent on tomatoes it'll be.

  3. pleas... don't do it! it looks disgusting...

  4. Have you tried Alfredo Sauce? ...  Or just tossing roasted or stir-fried veggies with lots of fresh herbs in extra-virgin olive oil on penne?  (We had that the other night)  ....  I suppose you could just simmer your organic ketchup with some broth, crushed garlic, chopped oregano & rosemary; onions.  Add some finely grated carrots for a natural sweetener too;  salt & pepper and maybe some red pepper flakes.  You might be able to find organic crushed tomatoes that wouldn't bother you, and that would be a good base too.....

  5. I have actually had spaghetti with just ketchup. But I love ketchup, haha. You may want to add garlic or garlic powder, parsley, and maybe some basil and onion.

  6. i dont think you should u se catsop

  7. Ok, ok---It does sound gross but I think you can do this.  I would do like 2 parts ketchup to one part broth or water.  Then, I'd add fresh or dried herbs like oregano and basil, plus some crushed garlic and onion.  Simmer and then taste.  You'll know what it needs to be more like spaghetti sauce.  Good luck, I hope it works out!!!
