Want to volunteer in a Daycare?

I'm 12 years old and want to volunteer in a daycare.

I have a lot experience with little kids. I used to babysit my friend when I was around 8 (her parents were still home), I also volunteer at a theater group, ages 3 to 9.

I am home schooled I don't know if that would make it easier. I also could tutor, I am re-learning grade 1 and 2.

Would daycares let me volunteer? Do I have to be 13 at least?

I am moving to Grosse Ile, MI soon should I wait til then?

  1. my best suggestion is to make up a little list, or even a resume of your experience with children and bring it to the daycares u are looking to volunteer at. it all depends on the place, but i work in daycares, and they have had help from former children of the daycares. if not just keep trying im sure u will get in somewhere

  2. try your local ymca as they love volunteers and some even have groups for young volunteers.  you can also try churches.

  3. I love the idea of you enjying working with children.  And with Daycares packed and understaffed nowadays, I am sure they would love some assistant.  However, under the law you are not allowed to volunteer in daycares unless you have an ECE certification as well as a current Criminal record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Search.  However, there are still options out there for you to use your energy, creativity and love for children.  Check out your local library, boys and girls clubs, church groups as well as city hall who are always looking for people to assist in daycamps and weekend activities.  Good Luck
