  1. Salix or willows are very thirsty. They do well along streambeds. You CAN'T over water it. When the wind blows in Mojave, consider that the hot dry air turnover is like multiple days of hot weather, and it will be at risk of dessication. You might have to water twice a day in the summer until it's established.

    Fertilize sparingly. You could use a 15-15-15 once every springtime.

    Thin the branches to give it a nice shape when all the leaves have fallen off.
