Wanted to become a Schutzand Trainer ?

Well I wanted to become a Schutzand Trainer when I get older. But I have had idiots tell me that I couldn't do it because im a women. I talked to this guy and said that Schutzand isn't something women should do. But I think I am more than capable of handling myself. Im 223lbs and Im pretty strong for somebody who is short.

Now, I really wonder, what does it take to become a Schutzand trainer ? I also wanted to get a degree in training dogs.

And is it true that Women shouldn't do Schutzand training ?

I cannot answer the question of what does it take to become a Shutzhund trainer since I have never participated in this discipline. Get in touch with your local Shutzhund club and speak to them. THey should be able to help you.

As far as a woman not being able to do it.....ya....right....we can probably do it better. You do need some physical strength since the dogs will lunge at you and bite at you, etc, since that is what you are training them to do so you have to be able to withstand it....if the dog gets you down and is not well trained you could get SERIOUSLY HURT or even KILLED if it is a vicious dog. You have to first learn how to determine the dog's nature and temperament and breeding before you should train it.

By the way...why Schutzhund???? I am just curious....it is something I have never even considered since I have not WANTED by dogs to be major guard dogs....pets - yes, agility dogs - yes, retriever trained dogs - yes, rally-o dogs - yes, flyball dogs - yes but not Schutzhund dogs (I have the wrong breeds for that anyway...although my lab mix (rescue) might be good at it!!!!

What you need to do is find a mentor and work with them. Most guys training Sch are not 200 lbs. Work & train with this person for a few years until your name gets around as a good trainer. Train your own dogs to Sch titles.

To the folks that think Schutzhund is attack training, you are wrong. It is PROTECTION training. It involves obedience, tracking and the "attack" portion. The dog does not just attack. It holds and releases when told.

Yes, a woman can train and participate in Sch just as well as a man can. You will need to be in better shape though as there is a lot of physical work involved during bite work especially and you need to move/run around a lot.

You can contact your local Sch club and start going and participating or asking as many questions as you can.

all you want to do is make yourself feel like you are the right in this arguement about women and men.Let me tell you something.

You ARE RIGHT.

It was sexist of the guy to say a woman can't be a dog trainer.As long as that woman is aware of the dangers,is aware of what to do in all possible situations,and is dead set on being the best of the best trainer, she CAN and WILL be.

Who cares what someone else thinks?I wish people could only just tolerate everyone and if he wants to go against them,they need better facts then just "only men can do that".
