Wanted to perform well in the death overs: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 – Cricket News Update
Following the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on April 29, Proteas’ pacer Morne Morkel claimed that he had aimed to come through for his team during the death overs, which he felt were a crucial part of
the match.
“Want to bowl well in the back end of the game, that is an important portion of the game and I was lucky to do well today. Hours and hours of practice bowling yorkers, also it is a confidence thing,” Morkel claimed.
The 27-year-old has claimed 18 scalps for the Daredevils in the current 5th edition of the Indian Premier League so far, and has taken at least one wicket in every match he has played for the side.
The most recent game against the Royals was no exception, but in addition to taking wickets, the right-armer also displayed effective restriction of runs and his tight bowling in the penultimate over of the match enabled his side to turn in their favour
what had appeared to be a lost game.
The Daredevils set their opponents a target of 152, and the Royals seemed in control of the game from the start of their innings, courtesy a solid opening stand by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 (84) – a 99-run stand. By the 19th over, the
Royals were at 138, with 15 runs from 12 balls, and the game appeared to be in their hands, but Morkel was merciless, bowling deadly yorkers and conceding only 3 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625 followed up on Morkel’s assault, and with 12 runs required off 6 balls in the last over, the Royals finished at 151 – just 1 run short of the target.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 gave due credit to the pacer, saying he had been convinced his side would lose before Morkel and Yadav stepped up to turn the game around in their favour.
“Bowlers did an excellent job, Morkel did really well, I asked him to be free and bowl with freedom. I also thought we were losing this when they needed 14 off two but superb bowling from the duo,” said Sehwag.
The South African also received praise from the opposition’s captain, who confessed that the second-last over had been the most devastating.
“Morkel bowled an excellent over and this will hurt for sure,” Dravid admitted after the match.
