  1. Top Hotels in Salzburg area:

Hotel Schloss Fuschl - at the gateway to the Salzkammergut, just 20 minutes from Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace. This fairy-tale chateau situated on a peninsular in Lake Fuschl was built in 1450 as a hunting lodge and used as the summer residence of the archbishops of Salzburg. In the 1950s the chateau became world-famous, as its romantic situation on the banks of Lake Fuschl provided the ideal setting for the “Sissi” films with Romy Schneider. Host to noblemen, archbishops, film stars, and empresses, our hotel paints a unique historic atmosphere and was noted as one of the 25 best resorts in Europe by Condé Nast Traveler in 2006.  Deluxe room starts approx 600 Euros/night.

Hotel Sacher Salzburg - located in the very heart of the Mozart city Salzburg. The Hotel was taken over by the Gürtler family in 1988 and has been the ideal counterpart to the Hotel Sacher Wien.To preserve the amtosphere and uniqueness of the hotel, renovation and expansion work was carried out so that the Sacher Salzburg could present itself as the meeting point for international society. All rooms are individually furnished with antiquities and further more our guests will find all the technical facilities they expect in a five star deluxe hotel.  Approx. 500 Euros/night.

Hotel Goldener Hirsch -  short walk from Mozart's birthplace in Salzburg, the five-star Hotel Goldener Hirsch has enjoyed a successful history dating back to 1407. Still, today, it is a meeting place for international society. This intimate 69-room hotel has maintained the character of a private home -- and an atmosphere of tradition. The restaurant, Goldener Hirsch, offers Austrian and international specialties in the most exclusive rendez-vous in Salzburg. And the tavern, Herzl, is the place to meet in the city center. The hotel was recently named to Condé Nast Traveler's 2006 Gold List and to the Travel + Leisure magazine Top 500 hotels for 2006.  Classic Single Room starts at approx 420 Euros/night.

This website provides a list of ski areas around Salzburg. http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/Airport...

My recommendations for the area would be:

    - Zell am Zee, with its glacier offers perfect summertime skiing.

    - St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen  for winter skiing near Salzburg

    - Heiligenblut for winter skiing although a bit further from Salzburg.

I am an agent and can get you some very good deals and/or amenities at the hotels listed, as well as help you plan your ski trip - whether staying in Salzburg or would like to stay at a resort near the slopes.  You can reach me at 866-485-8175.

    Hope this helps.  Happy schussing!
