i was always fascinated by reptiles, and now i have the money to buy one myself, around 150$ (enough?)

i do realize that different snakes and reptiles will have a different cost all together

anyway, my question is is there a snake that does not eat live animals? i am pretty freaked out by that

also can you give me a list of common house hold snakes for beginners, and info on those snakes. thanks

  1. actually you can feed most snakes frozen mammals. It's a lot easier actually. If you're looking for a snake that does not eat any mammals all together, you're looking at something like a rough green snake or a garter snake. beginner snakes typically are colubrids such as corn/king/milk snakes. These are all very easy to take care of, just requiring a feeding every one to two weeks, fill the water bowl and clean the cage of f***s. Each may have a special heating/humidity requirement but not anything difficult.

  2. I'd say the way to go would be a ball python or red tailed boa if your looking at snakes. mostly because balls are very easy going and easy to take care of. all you need is a 20 or 30 gallon tanks with a secure lid, a heat lamp, a water dish, and a hide-a-way for the snake. you don't have to feed live rats or mice, you can buy them frozen, but you do have to thaw them out and sometimes balls arent very good eaters, but the red tailed boas are awesome at it. ball pythons run about $50 + depending on where you get one. and i got my red tail for $100. i have one of each of the snakes i listed and they are the best pets i own. i hope i helped.

  3. you dont have to feed it live animals you know. they mostly come frozen and you just thaw them out. this may seem freaky but they have to eat just like us

you can get a garter snake. those are pretty easy to handle and so are milk snakes.

  4. You can feed them frozen animals but you have to thawl them out,but its alot easeir to feed them alive animals less stress for you......But i would get a Corn snake,Ball Python,King Snake,Milk Snake.

    But Good Luck Too You

  5. I think a very cool snake you might be interested in is the albino checkered garter snake. Here's a pic:

It has very unique colors. Again, it could eat frozen mammals like mice (usually pinkies), or fish. Here's a site with info on garter snake in general:

  6. If you are willing to consider other reptiles besides snakes you should look into bearded dragons. They eat insects and vegetables which is so much better for me(I will NEVER feed my pets a live rodent, I have hamsters as pets!!) Anyway, I love my beardies, you should look into owning a beardie. Good luck!
