9 Weeks ago my son broke his collarbone and has just been given the all clear by the doctor to return to rugby league. However, we would like to strap/tape his collarbone for a bit of added support when he runs back onto the field. We've been given the tape and the foam pad to go over his collarbone, we just don't know how to strap it correctly. Are there any websites or anywhere we can get step by step instructions on how to do it correctly.

  1. Go to the pharmasts

  2. Did the the Doctor actually recommend strapping the collarbone? If not I wouldn't worry about it. If there are any concerns I would definitely consult your Doctor first.

  3. There is a site advising on strapping but it does state that :-

"Seek the advice of your local Physiotherapist for the correct tape application of your particular injury as incorrect application may cause further problems."

That is the best advice. My son had the same problem but after a session with the physio he now puts on his own strapping.

You did not mention your son's age. If he is a junior you may not have the same access to a club physio/trainer as a senior player.

  4. why is this ion the rugby league section put it in the doctor section

  5. i broke my collarbone when i was 14 yrs. old and again at 23yrs. old.i does not break in the same place twice, but i used to wear shoulder pads to take any impact and tape the shoulder AC,joint ,as generally the shoulder should be stronger, with wear and tear on the joint
