  1. I wouldn't chance it.  I don't necessarily endorse private agencies, but I would at least go through your state's social services.

  2. Im not sure myself, but come and join us at http://www.mommy-talk.com/

We have an adoption buddy group that may be able to help you since most have adopted or are in the process.  HTH

    Tell them Tiffany sent you

  3. Yes, it's fine.  My mother was a foster parent and adopted me through the state.  I'm so grateful and fortunate.  I know my life would not be as good without her.  Wherever you choose to adopt, remember that it will happen if it is meant to be.

  4. It depends are where you live - independent adoption is more difficult in some states.  For example, if you live in Massachusetts, Delaware or Connecticut you have to go through an agency.

We did an independent adoption the first time around.  In NY attorneys cannot assist in finding you a match so we had to advertise on our own.  Because NY has a law that states that all agencies wanting to operate with NY couples have to be licensed additionally in NY - it made agency adoption particularly difficult for us (long waits to get in and to become parents).

Whatever you choose, good luck.  Feel free to email me if you want additional info.

  5. Independent adoptions are possible, depending on state regulations, but they are risky.  Look at all of the stories around lately about PAPs getting scammed out of a LOT of money by people who either faked the pregnancy or had no intention at all of placing their child for adoption.  Dateline did a segment on it recently.

    Please research it thoroughly.

  6. no

  7. Honest answer:  No

Do foster care if at all possible.

Do serious research about your agency.

**Honor open adoptions for your future child's sake

**Make sure "first parent counseling" is not about coercing her out of her baby.

**Make sure there are no outrageous fees involved in adoption, where your agency is making a huge profit.

All i can think of now.  Best of luck
