Wanting to Know My Family Root..?

If I want to know my family origin which website should I visit.. Do I need anything like birth cert. or I.C number or something..?

Here is a suggestion you may not get elsewhere...

If applicable, check your personal Aunts and Uncles to see if they or OR ANY OF THEIR CHILDREN have conducted this type of research already.  If by chance they have, their information will save you that much additional work.  It IS work and it takes a lot of time to compile, even when using an online or mail service.  Probably each service has different requirements.  

I have never done this, but wanted to write to a cousin and second cousin who had.  I was quickly mailed and email all kinds of interesting information dating back to 1643 on some of my relatives.  

Although I haven't done this, some interesting sites for research are listed below.  FYI-YAnswers has an entire SECTION under Family/Geneology on this as well.
