You in Texas? If so, it is CLEAT, and they do not do training. They are basically a labor organization.

Texas requirements for a general academy are a HS diploma, no felony convictions, no DWI for prior 10 years, and a couple of other minor things. For most regional academies, there isn't even a physical fitness test.

If you are wanting to work on a major department (Dallas, Austin, Houston, SA) they all have their own academies and if you go through a regional, you will still have to go to the local one.
