Wanting to find out more about planting 20 acres of trees?

Hi all, I am trying to find out for a friend..... I have heard that the government pay u to plant trees, I have a friend that is looking at planting 20 acres in trees and native plants, just woundering if anyone knows about a government program were they will pay u to do so or perhapps supply the trees/plants.

  1. There are often more profitable ways to do the silviculture bit than with government programs.

    But you need to know why one is wanting to plant trees, how much time one has to spend on it, and how much water, what kind of soil and climate.

    All of those questions change if one is going to sell the land as a grove or forest, except one still needs to know soil and water  climate questions.

    For instance, if one has soil and water, ad climate to allow for it, one may wish to grow specific mix of trees. Whereas if one has  to plant in mountainous, desert, rain forest, boreal, we have ever so different considerations.


  2. I don't know of any program that will pay you to grow trees but in my state if the land is designated for tree growth you get a reduced rate for your property taxes.  Ask at your town office,  the state and federal forestry departments and the department of agriculture.  Check with your county extension service,  too. They can direct you to the right agencies.
