  1. Two units generally means two years of a foreign language or two levels of a foreign language.  You will need to sign up for a foreign language in high school in order for most colleges to even look at your application.  I graduated from high school in Minnesota and the state required that all students have at least two years of a foreign language to graduate.

You can take the ACT and/or SAT starting your junior year.  That way if you don't get a good score you still have time to retake it your senior year.

  2. I have to vary from what the others are saying; in Idaho, a unit is a class, or a semester, so 2 units would be one full year: SPAN 1 in the fall, SPAN 2 in the spring. Perhaps it varies from state to state?

As for testing, ACT and SAT are Senior year, but you can take the PSAT your junior year to be better prepared.

  3. Two units would be two years in the same language. So two years of Spanish, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, whatever is offered at your school.

You can take the ACT/SAT anytime. I'd recommend around the middle of junior year then if you score bad you can still have a chance to retake it a few times till you have to apply for colleges.

    Good luck!

  4. 2 units usually means a 2 years of classes....such as spanish 1, then spanish 2 the next year. You can start taking the act and sat in the 11th grade.

  5. 2 units = 2 credits, which would be 2 years of a language. So junior & senior year, sign up for a language class!

And juniors usually take the ACT & SAT.
