Im trying to get into the police department, and for a requirement I can have college or 2 years active duty service. I want to know how i would go about finding out how much time i have in the service on my DD-214? Im in the reserves so I would imagine it would be different. I have 6 years in and since drill is only once a month how would that add up on my DD-214?

  1. It sounds like you are still in the Reserves which means you do not have a DD214 since you are still drilling.  If that is correct you need to contact your Admin Section and they should have the correct form that they can fill out and give you you current active duty time to date.  I don't know the form number but it does exist out there and they should know it.  I do believe that on the Leave and Earnings Statement it should also be noted.  Active Duty time would include your weekend drills, recruit training, formal schools you attended and the two weeks in the summer.  So talk to your Admin and they can get the information and prepare the proper form for you to provide the information.

  2. Gunny has it right.............

  3. A pure reservist would never get a DD 214.  If you get called to active duty (other than for training) then you would get one at the end of the term of service.  But the reserves use different forms and this time would not be considered active duty anyway, it is technically "active duty for training" which is different.

  4. I'm almost certain that you would have a DD 214.  Someone (either your Readiness NCO or you S1 section) should be able to pull up a copy for you from their database.  Have one of the two above explain it to you.

Last I checked to get into the police department, you were not required to have a college degree or active duty status.  They just made you look better.  I know with the Sheriff department you must have a certian number of college credits (like 60).

Just so you know, if  you google "AARTS", you can receive a number of college credits for your military training.  It's not a huge number, but it definitely helps.

    Good luck.

  5. You need to ask your administration shop for an official summary of military service. That will contain the info the police department needs.

As a reservist you will only receive a DD214 when you alternate between active and reserve duty, when you complete your contract term, or something out of the ordinary happens--like if you were to accept a commission.
