Wanting to know stories about people who have eloped??

Am considering it. My parents have passed away, his parents are split up, his dad re married on the other side of the world and I see it as a waste of money and needless stress as well!

My ideal wedding would have been to have parents, siblings and grandparents there, very simple and go for a lovely dinner, so as you can see from the above thats just not possible.

So, with family only attending the wedding ( brothers, sisters, auntys, uncles, cousins and their spouses, and his parents and step mum) the guest list is up to 70 .

We live in NZ and got engaged in Las Vegas earlier this year, we said jokingly "we should just get married while we are here" but thought our families would never forgive us...yet they are the ones who are now saying "you should have just got married in vegas and thrown a huge party when you got home!!"

So the thought of eloping to somewehere in NZ and thowing a party is very appealing...any stories to tell or advice on where to elope to ???

  1. The less you spend on getting married, leaves more for the honeymoon.

You'll remember the honeymoon trip much more than the weeks fo planning and the single day of the ceremony.

  2. I say do it!  Your reasons are very rational and will allow it to be meaningful as well.  We were going to have a private ceremony (just him and me).  However, our immediate family really wants to be there, even if it's just us sitting at a desk at the town hall.  So we're inviting a dozen of the close family to the ceremony one day, and then having a huge new year's reception for everyone else in our life.  We can concentrate on bringing everyone together for a great party and don't have to worry about the milliion stressful, embarrassing, expensive details of a large wedding. :)

Go for it!  What will you remember in 10 years?  However, do try to get some posed photos, even if it's just the two of you and taken by the judge.  Just something to frame and show your kids.
