Hi, I joined Keyboard in Junior High, and when I get these lessons, which include reading music/notes, staffs, beats, and measures, will I be able to know how to play music on the Keyboard? I like to play religious music from a hymnal and can read the notes very well, but can't play them. Will this help?

  1. Well, if its a Keyboard class then I assume you'll be taught how to play the music on a piano keyboard, not just read it.

If its a Music Theory class, OTOH, you'll learn about reading music and how notes come together to form scales and chords, and about rhythm and all that good stuff but you won't learn how to play specifically.

  2. Absolutely!  This class will teach you how to match up the notes you read, to the correct keys, and play them with the correct hand position and fingerings, so you can play solos, accompany other people (singers, other instruments) and also play for choruses or praise band.  HAVE PATIENCE!  Think of St. Augustine  - "Dear Lord, please grant me patience - right now!"  You will get better in small steps - and tehn you will be able to do many things.  Think of how you struggled when you were a little kid are were learning to read and write - no you do it automatically.  Good luck to you.
