Wanting to relocate to Barbados?

Hi everyone

My boyfriend is Barbadian and lives in Barbados and I would be grateful of any information on how I could get a work permit over there. I work as a legal secretary.

However, because whether or not-- or how easy it will be for-- you to get a work visa will depend on your specific situation.  I would definitely suggest contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directly (their phone# and email is on the website) and ask a few questions.

If you were able to get offered a job before going to Barbados, then that would surely speed up the process as the company would then apply for the permit for you.

See if you can get a sponsor from a company before you go there.

You could ask your boyfriend to go to legal offices and give them resumes beforehand or visit the island first and give resumes out to them.

The only way you will get a work permit is if you marry your bf, set up your own company or own land or property. Unless you can do something that a local cant do, ie: they are looking for hygenists at the mo, you wont get a permit. The longest you can stay in the country is 9 months (if you are lucky) as a visitor. Also, how long have you been with your bf, make sure you have money or he can support you when you first get here, cos its very expensive and can take months to get anything done. Ive lived here for 4 years and know what i am talking about.
