Question:

Wants clarification on the running v. jogging thing...?

I walked daily for a really long time to help improve my fitness level. Then I added some jogging in my walks. Now I can jog pretty much the entire route I take (2ish miles). I've been looking online (always dangerous, right?) and seen this huge debate over why running is better, but you have to do it constantly for this long, but if you jog, blah blah.....

It's got me really confused.

My goal is to burn calories.

Can somebody straighten this out for me, and maybe suggest something? I'd appreciate it!

No sarcasm, please. I'd like serious answers.

  1. Right, you have to find your optimum calorie burning range. To do this you need to find your Maximum Heart rate. The basic calculation is 220 minus you age. Then when you find this your optimum for fat burning is between 60-80 % of your maximum. So Running is more efficient tha walking ect.

    Hope this helps

  2. Jogging is just slow running. The faster you run or jog, the more calories you burn.

Here's a good site to determine how many calories you burn while running or doing other activities.

  3. Well running is usually faster then jogging. You'd jog to train for a race then run the race.

  4. The difference is all in your mind.

Joggers are runners who have been domesticated.

  5. Ok so running is faster than jogging which means that running burns more calories but it tires you out quicker
