Waqar Younis and Javed Najam to testify before the ICC Tribunal
Waqar Younis, the head coach of team Pakistan along with the former security manager Javed Najam will appear before the ICC anti-corruption tribunal this week. According to the news, their witness will play an important role in deciding the cricketing future
of the suspended trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammed Asif. The three players had been allegedly involved into spot-fixing during the Test match played against England in Lords, 2010.
When contacted, sources at PCB confirmed that they had been directed by the ICC to ensure the appearance of Major (retd) Javed Najam before the hearing tribunal this week in Doha. “Najam will also be a witness at the hearing in Doha this week”, said the
sources.
Najam, who, amid having some personal issues with officials of the board, has recently resigned from his post, did not accompany the squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 tour. However, he has been with the team throughout the year 2010, which started from its tour
to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 for the World Cup T20 event and which also included the controversial tour to England that had culminated in throwing many well performing players into hot waters.
Along with the above mentioned PCB personnel, according to the sources at the PCB, the one-day skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 will also appear before the tribunal as a witness at the spot fixing hearing.
Providing with the details, the officials at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board confirmed that they had been requested by the international cricketing body to request the coach (Waqar) and the captain (Afridi) to appear before the hearing tribunal, either in person
or through teleconference (depending upon their professional commitments).
According to the experts, while Waqar and Afridi’s statements may not play a significant role in assessing the involvement of the suspended players in the charged allegations, Najam will certainly prove to be a crucial witness as in an earlier statement,
he has already been reported to share some damaging observations with the ICC anti-corruption unit.
According to the news, following are the excerpts which had been associated to the former security manager of the team, “During the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard search of the players’ rooms at the team hotel, two police officers found cash in a bag and a small suitcase.
Most of the cash was in the suitcase. I asked the police officers to put on record the amount of money they had confiscated and they did so immediately.”
