Waqar Younis and Shahid Afridi Quizzed by the ICC
Pakistan cricket team’s head coach Waqar Younis, T20/ODI skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and security manager Colonel Khawaja Najam recorded their statements to the International Cricket Council today, regarding the spot-fixing fiasco that
took place in England this summer.
A source said, “The statements of these three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team members are part of the evidence documents and file prepared by the ICC against Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir,"
It is widely believed that the International Cricket Council has solid proof against the players, which will be enough to indict them for a life ban from the sport. The statements taken from Waqar, Afridi and Khawaja Najam are
in light of gathering more evidence against the tainted Pakistani players.
There are rumours that the ICC has been sending evidence to the lawyers of the players and the quantity of the evidence is so much that the lawyers are finding it difficult to prepare for the upcoming hearing.
The players will be facing ICC’s hearing in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986 from January 6th to 11th. If the ICC tribunal finds the evidence provided against the players solid enough, it may result in a life ban for at least
two players (Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif), while Mohammad Amir might gain sympathy from the tribunal because of his tender age. However, even then he will have to face a two to five year ban from international cricket.
Earlier, Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir filed an appeal against their suspension, which was rejected in a hearing in Dubai by the International Cricket Council. After this rejection, the two players launched a barrage of allegations
against the ICC, accusing the world cricket body of being biased and unjust.
The players have also been abandoned by the Pakistan Cricket Board, with the Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 making it very clear that the board would not help the players under any circumstances. The Pakistan Cricket Board has also suspended
the central contracts of the players and has left them on their own.
The future of the suspended players is looking even bleaker after the Chief executive of ICC, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, said that the ICC would be very disappointed if the players are acquitted by the ICC tribune. As of now, the lawyers of
the three players will have to come up with something solid to save their clients from their ultimate doom.
