Waqar, a veteran of 87 Tests with 373 wickets, is considered by many to be among the greats of the game. The former fast bowler is no stranger to coaching as he recently had a successful stint with the Pakistan cricket team as its national coach, but later
resigned citing personal and health problems.

The squads have already been announced on July 6, a total of 163 players are part of the league with 107 local players and 56 overseas players. Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has also been given an assignment with Utuhura, bringing in wealth of
expertise from his time with the Sri Lankan national side - leading them to the World Cup final in 2007.

SLPL was originally scheduled to be launched last year but it was postponed after the Board for Cricket Control in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) refused to allow its players to play the league.
The franchises will represent seven provinces with their teams namely Basnahira, Kandurata, Nagenahira, Ruhuna, Uthura, Uva and Wayamba. The competition which is due to kick-start on August 10 and will feature 24 games in total during a period of three weeks
with the final being played on August 31.
