http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 best candidate for Australian bowling coach job: Ijaz Butt – Cricket News Update
Former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 if the deal is finalised.
The post for Australian bowling coach was vacated by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s busy schedule in the coming months as the reason behind his decision to step down.
Younis, who is currently settled in Sydney, served as head coach of the Pakistan team for two years before resigning in 2011 owing to ‘personal and health’ reasons, for both him and his wife. However, he recently expressed an interest in taking up the charge
of bowling coach for the Australian team, and reportedly spoke to Cricket Australia's team performance manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Howard-c63371.
The 40-year-old’s interest in the Australian coaching job, just months after his retirement owing to health complaints, has raised suspicions, but Ijaz Butt (who was chairman at the time of Younis’ retirement) has expressed his backing for the former pacer.
“He wasn’t well when he quit,” Butt told Pakistan daily The Express Tribune. “He did not fake illness and was advised a proper rest. It’s very good to see him fit again and back in contention for the coaching role. I wish him luck for his endeavour.
Hopefully, he will get the job. I am confident Australian bowlers will benefit from him as he is very talented and hardworking coach.”
“His appointment in Australia will also be an honour for Pakistan,” Butt added.
Younis, whose Test career spanned 87 matches, with 373 wickets to his credit, can proved a useful mentor for the Australian bowling team (which comprises several young pacers, such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 and Pat Cummins), owing to his mastery of the reverse
swing – a technique the Australian bowlers have struggled to perfect.
Other candidates being considered for the post, other than Younis, are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 Tigers, and head coach
of the T20 team Hobart Hurricanes).
