Waqar Younis insists he did not have personal issues with Shahid Afridi – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s former head Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, who retired from all forms of international cricket in May, 2011 after developing rifts with team management
during Pakistan’s tour of West Indies where Pakistan won a One Day International (ODI) series by 3-2 under Afridi’s captaincy .
However, on Tuesday, Afridi retracted his retirement and announced his availability for international cricket.
Waqar, while welcoming Afridi’s decision to comeback in international cricket once against insisted that he never had any personal disputes with the 31-year-old all-rounder and his inclusion in the team would benefit the national squad.
Speaking to newsmen, Waqar said, “It was his decision to retire and take it back, it is good he is available for selection but it is also a fact that the entire episode has left a bad impression particularly on the young players."
“The team need Afridi and his decision is appreciable, however the bitter dispute between Afridi and board officials should not have been erupted in the first place. Both the parties should have talked it out behind closed doors," Waqar further opined.
Meanwhile, Afridi announced that he was now available for national duty since Waqar and most members of the previous team management had been replaced and a new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had also been named in place of the much disputed Ijaz Butt, under
whose administration Afridi had refused to play for Pakistan.
The whole, situation reached a boiling point when after returning from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 earlier in 2011, Afridi disclosed the disputes that had erupted during the tour.
The disclosure of these revelations did not go down well with the board as it was seen as a direct breach of PCB’s contract that prohibits players and board officials from speaking to media without prior permission from the board.
Consequently, Afridi was relieved from his duties as the captain of the national team and replaced by middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972. Nonetheless, he was retained in the squad as a player.
However, seeing this as an obvious insult, the flamboyant all-rounder decided to bid farewell to international cricket and pledged not to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 was at the realms of PCB.
