Waqar Younis is trying hard to lead the Pakistan Cricket team to glory
Pakistan’s cricket team is performing a lot better now than it did last year. The country’s disastrous tour of Australia where they lost every match that they possibly could, forced some serious changes in the side. A lot of players were handed fines and some were banned from playing. Also the coach of the team was changed to make way for a former great Pakistani fast bowler and wonderful cricketer, Waqar Younis. It seems that Younis has managed to turn around the fortunes of the side and has made them a pretty capable side once again. Let us see what he can achieve in the future at the helm of Pakistani cricket.
Waqar Younis made his debut in 1989 as a fast bowler for Pakistan. There were a few things that made Younis a very special bowler in his early days. He was genuinely fast and alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292, he made one half of the deadliest duo in fast bowling and a nightmare for batsmen all over the world. His long charging run up made him a terror to behold and over his career he managed to take a huge number of wickets. The great bowler took 373 wickets playing in 87 Tests and 416 in 262 one-day internationals. When he started his career a lot of bowlers were pitching the ball fast and short, while Waqar decided to bowl very fast and full. He disregarded the batsman and aimed straight for the stumps which saw him get that large amount of wickets mentioned above. During his impressive time with the Pakistan team, he was promoted to captain as well but his reign was cut short because of back injuries and poor performances by the team. He retired from playing cricket in 2004 and two years later was appointed Pakistan’s bowling coach. Early this year saw Waqar moving up from his position as bowling coach to becoming the head coach of the national side.
Younis is an interesting coach; he seems to have done wonders for Pakistan’s morale and confidence levels. After the disastrous performance shown by the team in Australia, he decided to fix the morale of the team first. He spent time with the players, motivated them, talked to them and helped them work on their game. This one act seems to have brought the team back to its feet again. The Pakistanis put in a resounding effort and have really given England a tough time during the test series currently going on. The one aspect that has significantly improved in the Pakistani side is their bowling, which should be no surprise owing to the fact that their coach was one of the world’s best bowlers. Although, the batting has not been so impressive but it is a definite improvement over the team’s showing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. If Pakistan can continue on this path they might see themselves back in the driver’s seat and on track to becoming a dominant force in cricket again.
It seems Waqar has started a very promising trend among the Pakistani team at the moment. He has inspired Pakistan’s bowling prodigies to reach for the stars. The mere presence of the great bowler in the dressing room has been a very positive effect on the young bowlers in the side; Players like the hugely impressive Mohammad Aamer and the talented newcomer Wahab Riaz. Both of these young bowlers claimed five wickets each in England’s innings. With the bowlers pushing hard to impress their coach and emulate his greatness, it seems other players on the team are following the trend and attempting to do amazing things with both bat and ball. It is a good day in Pakistani cricket when the team is being noticed for playing well instead of horrendous performances or terrorist attacks on visiting teams.
All Pakistani fans hope this trend can be sustained for the next few years and the team can regain its great form that the team enjoyed in the 1990s. Incidentally that golden period of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 was led by Waqar Younis who is once again leading the team into a second golden period. Let us see if this positive style of play can continue and whether or not it lasts a long time.
