Waqar Younis raises question marks over Mohammad Sami’s place in the team – Cricket News Update
After a disappointing comeback in international cricket, Mohammad Sami’s former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193, has slammed the fast bowler's ability to adjust at the ultimate stage of the game.
The 31-year-old burst into the international scene in 2001, making an immediate impact by picking up a five-wicket haul on debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. The cricketer from Karachi went on to complete a hat-trick in ODIs as well as in
Tests.
Sami remained an integral part of the national setup for a number of years, despite inconsistent performances. However, he enjoyed a number of former cricketers’ vote of confidence, who believed the fast bowler possesses immense talent.
Even after a decade’s struggle, Sami’s potential remains unfulfilled and he is still not certain about his international future, although he has been named in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 squad.
While speaking to Pakpassion, the former Green Shirts’ coach said that the Karachi-born fast bowler was quite wayward in the Island, failing to replicate his domestic performances (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League) at the international
level.
Waqar expressed, “Sami as usual was expensive, he’s made 14 or 15 comebacks and he has still not learnt the art of bowling in international cricket. Sami has done well recently in domestic cricket but when it comes to international
cricket he’s been expensive.”
After 36 Tests, the fast bowler is averaging 52.74 runs per wicket, which is extremely poor for a strike bowler. His performances in the ODIs however, have been much better, compared to the other two formats.
Sami failed to impress in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 but Waqar thinks that the fast bowler has shown a minor improvement but still not good enough for international cricket. He may have retained his place in limited-overs sport but the former Test
captain has serious doubts about his place in the Test team.
“Having said that though, this time around Sami looked better than what I have seen in the past from him. He’s not a youngster, he’s had lots of chances and I think he’s going to find it difficult to retain his spot in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
side particularly in Test cricket,” he added.
