http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 slams the selectors for bringing back tried and tested players – Cricket News Update
Waqar Younis, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 have not been selected on merit.
The selection committee, headed by former Test spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980, announced three different squads for each format for the tour of Sri Lanka last week, which is going to commence from June 1, 2012.
There have been a number of shocking inclusions in the Pakistan team as a number of question marks have been raised about veteran cricketers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faisal-Iqbal-c56713 and Mohammad Sami.
On top of that, one of Pakistan’s most consistent run-getters in limited-overs cricket since last couple of years, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afaq-Raheem-c42168, who are not youngsters
by any stretch of the imagination.
While talking to Pakpassion, the former captain expressed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sami-c77289 has been given a number of opportunities to prove his potential in the past but the fast bowler failed to cement his place in the national team.
Waqar strongly condemned selection on the basis of performances in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League (BPL).
The great fast bowler feels that Pakistan should build a team for future, instead of bringing back cricketers who have been tested a number of times in past.
Waqar said, “Sami’s inclusion was one of many surprises in my opinion. The selectors should not select players for international cricket based on good performances in club cricket like the Bangladesh Premier League. I would urge the
selectors to move forward rather than backwards like they are with the selection of Sami and other tried and tested players who have not managed to perform at the highest level in the past.”
The former Pakistan captain is also surprised about the selection of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 and Yasir Arafat as he feels that some of the other young bowlers should have been tried because both of them also fall in the same category as that
of Sami.
“I think the selectors have been very diplomatic in their approach to the selection. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241 and Sohail Tanvir are surprises to me,” he added.
