Waqar Younis urges the Pakistan team to get back to the winning track ahead of the 2011 World Cup
Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis has asked his side to get back to the winning track as they start the build-up to the 2011 ICC World Cup. Waqar said that after a series of defeats during the chaotic summer
in England, victories against South Africa and then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 would be a good build-up for next year’s prestigious event.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s recent trip to England was spoiled by spot-fixing allegations which led to the provisional suspensions of its three players - Test captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. All three players
were charged by the ICC with violating the code of conduct.
The suspensions followed an article published in a British tabloid News of the World (NOTW) claiming that the pacer-duo bowled deliberate no-balls during the 4th Test played at the Lord's. After
investigations, the trio was suspended by the governing body under article two of its anti-corruption code, giving the players right to appeal.
The trio lodged appeals separately, but last week Mohammad Asif withdrew from his petition. The International Cricket Council has set a commission to hear appeals against the suspension from the rest in Dubai on
October 30 and 31.
The Oval One-Day game was also marred by spot-fixing allegations by another British tabloid,
The Sun, but the charges were cleared by the ICC two weeks ago.
The coach is hopeful that the trio involved in the spot-fixing controversy would be available for the next year’s World Cup starting from 19th February, co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
"I hope they (the suspended trio) are available to play, but at this point of time we can only hope because they are three key players and it's never easy to lose your key players," said Waqar, who himself was
a great pacer of his time.
Talking about the new-ball pair, Waqar said that both Amir and Asif had been progressing remarkably but if the pair would not be available then the team management has replacements in mind and they will step in.
The Pakistan coach said that they will bring in a combination of experience and youth. "We have a blend of youth and experience and with Younis Khan coming into the squad against South Africa, we have a chance
to blend the team and it's always good to have experience backing up the youth," said Waqar.
For now, however, Pakistan seems as lost as it was in the above-mentioned matches (spot-fixing scandal or no spot-fixing scandal), as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 cruised to a comfortable 6-wicket win over the Pakistani side in
the 1st T20I held in Abu Dhabi today.
