Waqar considers rotational policy effective – Cricket News Update
After being torn apart by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193, believes that the national side should adopt a rotational policy in order to attain positive results.
The 40-year-old commented on the current squad for the on-going Asia Cup, which offered little changes from the one which got dismantled at UAE. He added that the excessive cricket being played nowadays takes a toll on the players and further affects their
ability to perform on a consistent basis, hence rotating the squad every now and then could be a viable option.
“Given http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s dismal showing in the One-day International format during the home series against England in the UAE, there were expectations that the Pakistani selectors may opt for changes for the Asia Cup but it did not happen,” said the veteran.
Waqar further expressed his concerns over the fitness of the players who are playing in the current mega event. Apart from the exclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088, and despite no major injury, most of the players have been playing non-stop cricket
over the past year or so, which will make it harder for the players to keep up the same tempo for the remainder of the season.
“I just feel that the boys are getting a little tired — I could see the signs of wear and tear in them during the recently concluded ODI and Twenty20 series against England,” the legend pacer.
Following the conclusion of the Asia Cup, the Men In Green will be travelling to play against the likes of Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, and given the stature of the opponents, the ex-coach reckoned that the rotational policy should serve them well.
“Given that we have series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Australia coming up this year, I am sure a rotation policy will be useful here,” said the legendary pacer.
The legendary bowler also showed his confidence in the newly appointed Head Coach Dave Whatmore and hoped that his tenure will mark a significant progress to the overall game play of the Men In Green.
Waqar also considered Sri Lanka as the favourites to the lift the on-going tournament, which apart from Pakistan, includes hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
