Question:

War game with supply chain management aspects?

Can anyone recommend a war board game(s) where supply chain management is critical to keeping the military units viable? Preferrably something without the luck of cards or dice. My specific eras of interest are: The Seven Year's War (aka French and Indian War), the American Civil War, WW2, Vietnam, and cold War conflicts, but willing to make an exception for a good game. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  1. axis and allies, a great WW2 board game that depends on stragedy and skill

  2. again fire in the east :p

the most sophisticated supply management i ever had in a strategy game. You have to use engineers to convert the russian rails to be usable by german trains and can supply troops via the airforce. a good tactic is to cut off supply from strong fortresses and thus lower the effectiveness of the enclosed units.

you really shouldn't overestimate the luck factor imo as a lil bit of chance makes your moves more unpredictable thus you have to incorporate that into your overall strategy and also it adds some realism as that you simply can't say what the outcome of a battle is just by looking at the numbers.

  3. Possibly RISK.

  4. Avalon Hill used to make hundreds of these type of games, but unfortunately, they decided to get out of the gaming industry back in 1998, and sold the rights to their games and their name to Wizards of the Coast (you may know them from the popular trading card game 'Magic: The Gathering'), which is a division of Hasbro.  Hasbro decided that they only wanted to keep Diplomacy, Acquire, and History of the World, and have sold most of the rest.

The company that they sold their strategy war board games to is 'Multiman Publishing'.

You can order many of them through their website (http://www.multimanpublishing.com/) or the following website:

    http://www.gamersarchive.net/theGamers/a...

The second link is the page that has the games categorized by type (Civil War, WWII, etc...)

I was also disappointed when I learned that they were sold, but I'm happy that this type of game still exists and is still available.

I still own one called "The Desert Fox" which is about Rommel's conquest of Northern Africa, in which supply chain plays a heavy role.  Multiman Publishing doesn't offer that one, that I can find, but they do have others in a similar vein.

    I hope this helped!
