Waratahs grab a close victory over Western Force - Rugby updates
The Waratahs finished a nail biting win over Western Force in a Super Rugby match played in Sydney. The important game was won by the Waratahs with the help of a late try by Ulugia. He was sent into the closing moments of the match during the second half
and proved his presence devastating for the Western Force.
The victory has put the Waratahs in fifth overall position on the point’s table after eleven outgoings. The crucial victory has also boosted their morale as they make their place into the semi-finals.
Western Force went into the game without their full-back Cameron Shepherd who was knocked out during the practice session a couple of days before the clash. In his absence, Pat Dellit was moved to the back rows. Meanwhile, Waratahs Hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau
was also not participating in the match due to a head injury he sustained against the Rebels last week. He was replaced by John Ulugia in this Super clash.
Western Force’s players were soon in action as O’Connor kicked the penalty successfully into the eighth minute of the game. Waratahs paid back in the same fashion after a while with Beale scoring on penalty. O’Connor again rose to the occasion and kicked
another two penalties and marched a steal over the Waratahs, 9-3. Beale again decreased the deficit with penalty before the break. The Western Force was leading the match at interval by 9-6.
The struggling Waratahs bounced back into the game quite nicely in the second half and scored an early try with the help of Ryan Cross. Beale collected another two points for his side on a conversion in the next minute.
Western Force’s O’Connor was having a good day and he added another try to by-pass the Waratahs once again. The rest of the game belonged to the Waratahs as Western Force could add a single point to their total. A try and penalty in the ending moments proved
devastating for Force.
Despite the defeat the Western force played really well and gave the Waratahs tough time in the match.
