Waratahs injury list grows ahead of their play-off game against the Blues – Super Rugby update
Australian Super Rugby franchise, New South Wales Waratahs, have suffered another blow after their scrum half Luke Burgess has been ruled out of their Friday, June 24 Super Rugby championship play-offs encounter against the
Blues.
Waratahs head coach, Chris Hickey, has confirmed the injury to his first choice scrum half Burgess. The incident occurred during the team’s training session at Paddington's Victoria Barracks. During one of the training drills
the scrum half ended up injuring his hand.
Later, a checkup by the clubs medical staff revealed that the injury was a broken bone in the hand. Burgess’ injury makes him the 12th player for the Waratahs who will not be available for selection in the crunch knockout game
against the Blues at Eden Garden on coming Friday.
However, Hickey has expressed his confidence that the replacement player will rise to the occasion. He said, “'I suppose the encouraging thing is when we've had to make those changes, the players who have come in have stepped up to the mark and done a really
good job. I don't think it will be any other case this weekend.”
Hickey has hinted at Ben Batger and Josh Holmes being possible replacements. He said, “'We've got options Ben Batger has played 10, Josh Holmes has played 10 and 12 at club rugby, we're going to take Bernard Foley with us, it's something we're going to
look at once we get over there.”
Besides Burgess, other notable players that will be missing from Friday’s encounter include Drew Mitchell, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Berrick Barnes, Daniel Halangahu, Wycliff Palu, Al Baxter and Ben Mowen.
In addition to Batger and Holmes, the remaining members of the Waratahs squad for their June 24 game are as follows:
