Waratahs make it to semi-finals by sinking ACT Brumbies 41-7 in must win match - Super Rugby News
The NSW Waratahs defeated the ACT Brumbies by an impressive margin of 41-7 in an important Super Rugby clash. The crucial victory in Sydney has confirmed the Waratahs’ place in the play-off stages of the Super Rugby Championships. The Waratahs scored five
tries in the match whereas the Brumbies only managed to open their account in the last minute of the game.
The Waratahs needed to win order to make their place in the play-offs. They made three changes in their starting line up from the last game they played against the Highlanders on June 11. Wycliff Palu missed the match due to an injury to his shoulder from
a previous encounter. The ACT Brumbies entered the field unchanged from their previous match against the Melbourne Rebels.
The aggressive Waratahs got off the mark quickly in the match as Lachlan Turner scored the first try of the match in the third minute of the match. Kurtley Beale succeeded him with a well directed conversion kick in the very next minute of the game.
Soon after, Kurtley Beale made a great effort to slot a penalty from 45 metres away but missed as the ball fell just short off the goal post.
The Waratahs ended the first half with 10-0 lead over the Brumbies. The Brumbies’ players were mostly left chasing the Waratahs in the match and could not score any points in the first-half.
The Waratahs were further elevated by Kurtley Beale, who scored on one penalty kick and a conversion during the 45th and 48th minutes of the match. Meanwhile Timani scored a second try of the match for the Waratahs. The derby was now
firmly in the driving seat as the Brumbies’ moral looked low.
The flood gates were opened for the Waratahs and they added heaps of points to their total in the later part of the game. They scored three tries during the last 20 minutes of the match. The Brumbies only managed to score seven points in the very last moments
of the match and ended their Super Rugby season in losing fashion.
